Realism in the visual arts and literature is the depiction of subjects as they appear in everyday life, without embellishment or interpretation. Realistic art is generally most closely related to photography as a photo depicts the image for what it is and not what the artist interprets from the image. This image represents an oil rendition of a lion's face and the artist who painted this image did so in a realistic way trying to capture the subject matter with as much consistent representation as possible.
